For six days, fantastic short films from around the globe are back as the 36th Busan International Short Film Festival begins from April 24-29 at the Busan Cinema Center and Moonlight Cinema.
Continuing its own identity and unique feature, the 2019 Busan International Short Film Festival looks into the current trend of international short films and presents four program categories — Official Competition, Guest Country Program, World Shorts and Shorts for Family under which subcategories are associated respectively.
Three films have been selected as the opening films, including “Subotika. Land of Wonders “ from Switzerland, “The Gift” from Indonesia and “Solar Beats” from France.
The Official Competition, which has been extended with two territories including Korea and International region in order to introduce more diverse films since 2015, is expected to show the current fashion of world short films and the unique feature of Korean short films.
Switzerland films will also be spotlighted this year with a total of five films, including two fiction films, two documentaries, and one animation, indicating that the strength of Swiss short films is not limited to certain genres. These insightful films show a keen observation of present-day Swiss society through both solid dramas and rambunctious scenes, while also acting as windows on the world according to its website.
“World Shorts_Hub of Asia” showing the trend of Asian short films has been unveiled. The 2019 BISFF introduces special recommendations in the program “Hub of Asia” consisting of sections 1) AFiS Special, 2) Kaohsiung Shorts: LGBTQ Stories, 3) # ThemToo: Iranian Women Directors.
