The Busan Lotus Lantern Festival begins today with a lighting ceremony at Song Sang-hyun Square, beginning at 7 p.m.
This year’s lantern festival, hosted by the City of Busan and the Busan Buddhism Association, will be held until May 12th.
There will be traditional lanterns in Song Sang-hyun Square, Jung-gu, and street lanterns on Gwangbok-ro amongst many locales around the city.
Some highlights of the festival include the Yeongsanjae and Evening Buddhist Ceremonies and Buddha’s Majesty of Light which takes place at 4 p.m. at Busan Citizen’s Park on May 4th.
In addition, the Lotus Lantern Parade is set to take place on the same day, Saturday the 4th, at 7:30 p.m.
The 4.5-kilometer route begins at Busan Citizens Park and goes through Bujeon Market, Seomyeon Rotary and finishing at Busan Citizen’s Park with about 10,000 people expected to participate.
Also from May 4th through the 8th, cultural experiences and performances are scheduled throughout the day at Song Sang Hyeon Square.
