Busan Looks to Introduce Express Trains on Metro Lines 1 and 2

A civic debate was held at Busan City Hall at 10 am yesterday on introducing express trains to Busan Metro Lines 1 and 2.
The city of Busan, Busan Transportation Corporation and the Busan Citizen Network for Saving Economy will jointly host the debate to provide expert discussions on cases from domestic and international express trains and from operating the express train on Seoul Metro Line 9 as well as research and development on technology.
The debate will also be a chance to hear opinions from citizens and will be followed by a public survey.
The express train survey will be open on the websites of the three entities until December 25th.

The city plans to reflect the opinions of experts and citizens to promote the direction and detailed planning of the express route. Busan Transportation Corporation is also planning to increase public consensus on the need for the introduction of express trains in urban areas by holding additional regional discussions for lines 1 and 2.

The plans to introduce the express trains of the subway lines 1 and 2 were announced at the press conference.

“Introducing the rapid transit train will change the concept of Busan’s speed by ‘innovating’ the public transportation system, and activating movement and circulation will contribute to the balanced development of the entire Busan area. This decision is to realize the core value of the 7th Busan National University Reconstruction,” said Mayor Oh Keo-don.

When express trains are introduced on Busan Metro Lines 1 and 2, the total operating time of the Metro Line 1 will be shortened by 34 minutes from 78 minutes to 44 minutes and 31 minutes from 85 minutes to 54 minutes.

The city intends to introduce the express trains of subway lines 1 and 2 to reflect the feasibility analysis and approval of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport through the urban railway network construction plan.

After that, administrative procedures such as an express operation model analysis and preliminary feasibility study are applied. If the process is shortened as much as possible, express train operation is possible after 2028.
