Busan Foreign Students Network Starts Volunteer Activities


BUSAN, South Korea -- Busan Foreign Students Network launched into action by repairing some old walls on April 27. This network, consisting of 77 foreign students from all around the world including China, Indonesia, and Myanmar, repainted the walls of Dong-il Park Mansion, Uam 1-dong, Nam-gu, in Busan. 

By doing volunteer work for the local community, the foreign students were able to contribute to the local community and enjoy an unforgettable experience in Busan. Busan Foreign Students Network, consisting of selected students from 11 different countries, has thus far been engaged in various kinds of activities including cultural experience and volunteer work, led by coordinators who are able to communicate with them.

Report: International Conventions in Busan Drop Drastically in 2012


BUSAN, South Korea -- According to International conference statistics 2012 from the UIA (Union of International Associations), the city attracted 58 international conferences last year, ranking 34th in the world and 11th among Asian countries. 

The city hosted 110 international conferences in 2011 which is 15th in the world and 4th among Asian countries. 

The cause of this falling number is the dissolution of the Busan Convention Bureau which was responsible for attracting and marketing international conferences.

The 3rd BFIA Korean Class; just take a level test and apply!


BUSAN, South Korea -- The 3rd Busan Foundation for International Activities(BFIA) Korean Class' level tests will be held from June 24 to 28, for 5 days. Only those who take the level test within the specified period can apply to join the Korean class from July 2~9, after becoming a member on the homepage of BFIA. It is still possible to apply for TOPIK class and beginner class without taking a level test. Lessons of the 3rd BFIA Korean Class will take place at Busan Global Center from July 15 to September 14, over a period of 9 weeks.

Haeundae Sand Festival Gets Underway this Weekend Along with Daily Airshow


BUSAN, South Korea -- In the outstretched white sands of Haeundae Beach, the Haeundae Sand Festival will be held from June 7 to 10. Under the theme The Cinema-Haeundae Sand Studio, there are lots of events and marvelous things to see. 

The World Sand Sculpture Exhibition, where artists recreate likenesses of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in sand, and the Sand Board Festival, where surfers ride the sand dunes that are up to 10 meters (32 feet) high, are just some of the thrilling adventures for tourists and residents alike. 

Busan Police Crackdown on Major Crimes


BUSAN, South Korea -- To mark the 100th day for the eradication of four crimes including unsanitary food and school violence, a briefing session on the promoted crimes was held and attended by citizens and government agencies. 

During yesterday's session, the activity cases to root out the four crimes were announced and time to talk with citizens was prepared. 

The Busan Police Agency got actual results to arrest 470 sexual crime offenders, 1,041 offenders to distribute Internet pornography illegally and 411 offenders related with unsanitary food conditions during the past 100 days.

2013 Landscape and Garden Show at Bexco this Week

 


BUSAN, South Korea -- The 2013 Landscape and Garden Show Busan offering a chance to see the latest trends in gardening will be held from the fifth to the eighth at Bexco. 

Eighty leading companies in the domestic landscape industry will take part. The event is hosted by Busan city, KNN, Busan Ilbo and Kookje Daily News. 

The Busan Landscape Forum will also be held. The forum will discuss the UN Memorial Park. The joint graduate work exhibition of landscaping departments of local universities including Busan National University and Donga University will also be shown. 

Every day, 1,500 visitors will get a free flowering plant on a first come first served basis.

See Superstars Rain and Super Junior in 3-D concerts


BUSAN, South Korea -- It has become possible to see the live performances of Hallyu stars Rain, Super Junior, and Infinite in 3-D. An exclusive K-pop theater (34 seats) has opened on the B1 floor of BIFF Hill, Busan Cinema Center. 

The theater will show live performances by Korea's idol singers and groups in 3-D format whereby the audiences will use three-dimensional eyeglasses so that they can feel like they are actually at the concert.

The live performances include Hallyu star Rain as well as idol groups such as Super Junior and Big Bang, who have worldwide fan bases. 

The performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on weekends. For foreign audiences, subtitles will be provided in English, Japanese and Chinese. On the side, there will also be K-pop dance and beauty art experiences, a tour of the Busan Cinema Center and others. 

Women’s Match Racing Championships Begin


BUSAN, South Korea -- The 'Busan Women's Match Racing World Championship', recognized by the International Yacht Racing Union in the Asia area will be held from the 3rd to the 10th of June in Busan's Haeundae area. 

Yachting was selected as a regular event in the 2012 London Olympics and the championship boasts the worlds- highest authority as the world's top yacht players attend. 

The Women's Match Racing World Championship is held every year with the world tour and is the highest-grade championship among women's events. Busan is the only city to hold the championship in Asia as from 2008.
