The city of Busan announced that it will install additional 1,252 crosswalks by 2022 to secure pedestrian safety and to increase convenience.
The 3.5 billion KRW project will cover areas where jaywalking is frequent, and on roads that are blocked or at severed sidewalks.
The city has decided to allocate 500 million KRW to install crosswalks in 12 pedestrian problem areas and 305 areas with severed sidewalks.
The designations come after the local Police Agency’s traffic safety facilities assessment.
Last year, pedestrians accounted for over half of the city’s fatal traffic accident victims.
