Discussions to Relocate US 55th Supply Depot for World Expo Site Begin

Discussions on relocating the 55th Supply Depot of the US Military have begun.

The City of Busan intends to use the 217,000 ㎡ land in Beomil-dong as the site for the 2030 World Expo but is facing obstacles of astronomical costs and finding an alternative spot for the supply depot.

The Ministry of National Defense owns 97% of this land, but the US Military has occupied the land for 70 years.

The City requested the defense ministry to move the supply depot to use the land for the World Expo and to turn it into a space for the citizens.

The ministry requested the city to remove the land from the possible host-sites for the World Expo as it would take at least 10 years for the large-scale military facility to be transferred.
