Famed Hong Kong action director, John Woo, will visit the 22nd Busan International Film Festival with his new film Manhunt.
Manhunt is the latest remake of Kimi yo fundo no kawa wo watare (1976) to pay homage to iconic Japanese actor Takakura Ken. Earning enthusiastic support from worldwide fans with Better Tomorrow (1986) and The Killer (1989), John Woo’s new film Manhunt is a long-awaited return to his classical action genre. The film recently had its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and received praise from the film industry.
Manhunt will amaze film buffs that are deeply ingrained with memories of Hong Kong films from the 1980s and ‘90s. Manhunt showcases action-packed extravaganza following the journey of Du Qiu, who once was a respected lawyer, but is unwittingly framed as a perpetrator in a murder case, and veteran detective Yamura who tracks Du Qiu.
Chinese Actor Zhang Hanyu, Japanese Actor Masaharu Fukuyama and Korean Actress Ha Ji-won star in the film.
Manhunt will join Butterfly Sleepby Jeong Jae-eun, Mother! By Darren Aronofsky, Narratage by Yukisada Isao, and The Third Murder by Kore-eda Hirokazu in the Gala Presentation of the festival.
In other festival news, Miike Takashi’s 100th film Blade of the Immortal will be showcased in A Window on Asian Cinema.
