Korea Destinations: Namhae’s Garlic and Hanwoo Festival

One of Gyeongnam’s representative food festivals, the Namhae Garlic and Hanwoo Festival returns this weekend.

Now in its 14th year, the festival celebrates the regions love of garlic which coincides with the beginning of garlic picking season.

The festival runs this Friday through Sunday with a variety of activities for those looking to get out of the city at Seomyun Namhae Sports Park.

The festival opening gets underway June 7 at 8 pm.

An opening concert with a choir and vocal performances and a fireworks display highlight the first night of the festival.

On Friday, there will also be a performance dance parade and contest as local performances.

On the second day, a concert for Korean traditional music at the Pansori Institute of Park Sunhee, a garlic game selection contest, and a selection contest for Hwangwoong are scheduled.

On Sunday, local culture and arts performances and multi-cultural festivals will be held, and the festival will conclude with the “Treasure Island Namhae Garlic Night Festival”.

During the festival period from June 7 – 9, a garlic theme pavilion and a garlic craft art exhibition will be held.
