The Suyeong River will change its status from a local river to a national river.
Starting in January of next year, 9 kilometers of the 26.34-kilometer river will be designated as a national river — between the Hoe-dong reservoir in Geunjeong-gu and the Suyeong bridge.
Typically, the central government only supports half of the expenses for a local river while the other half is supported by the local government.
With Suyeong River’s designation as a national river, all repair and maintenance work will be paid through a national fund and the city is expected to save about 60 billion won of its annual budget.
