New Year's Eve Sunrise Party at HQ Gwangan @ HQ Gwangan

Let’s bid a fond (or maybe unfond depending on your outlook) to 2019 and look forward to all of the potential of 2020 at HQ Gwangan on Tuesday, December 31st. Just like we always do, we’ll keep the bar going until the sun rises and then some, and of course, we’ve got a ton of drink and food specials throughout the night, including:

DRINKS

25,000 Bottles of Champagne

From open until 1:00 AM–

3000 Won Tequila Shots
4000 Won Glasses of Red/White Wine
5000 Won Jameson Cocktails

FOOD
Homemade Chili
Cajun Mac & Cheese
Chili Mac & Cheese

And if those specials aren’t enough to push you over the edge, at midnight, we are giving everyone who’s there to ring in the new year a FREE CHAMPAGNE TOAST! And for those of you who make it to sunrise–approximately 7:00 AM–we’ll have a FREE RAFFLE–everyone who is still alive and semi-conscious at the bar at sunrise will get a raffle ticket. We’ll be raffling off a free bottle of Jameson!

Hope to see you on the 31st! And then I’m taking January off from the booze… okay, maybe the first week of January… possibly the first night of January… we’ll see how it turns out.

An Invitation to the Buddhist Art of Myanmar

Myanmar is predominately a Buddhist nation where the majority of its people follow the teachings of Buddha. The vast diversity in ethnicity, language, and lifestyle converges into the grand river of Buddhism wherein people come together.

The life of the Buddha characterized by eons of merit-making provided fertile material for the exquisite Buddhist art in Myanmar. The Buddhist commitment to accruing karma through acts of charity and self-sacrifice in everyday life has persisted in the lives of people in Myanmar.

The exhibition will be a special opportunity for you to explore Myanmar’s Buddhist artwork, which is full of religious devotion and fascinating narratives.

On display are 50 sculptures of arhats from the ruins of Changnyeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, ROK.

The ruins of Changnyeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do Province, are where the sculptures of arhats, believed to be 500 years old, were first discovered in 2001. In Buddhism, an arhat, or nahan in Korean, is someone who has attained enlightenment and can enter nirvana.

The innovative space for this exhibition was designed and created in collaboration with contemporary artist Kim Seung-young.

Previously, the exhibition was successfully held at Chuncheon National Museum in Aug. 2018 and the National Museum of Korea in Apr. 2019, and was well received by a large number of visitors.
