Fall Family Festival @ ISB
Oct 20 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Fall Family Festival @ ISB

International School of Busan (ISB) will host its annual “Fall Family Festival”, on Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 10 am to 2 pm. This fund-raising event is also open to all members of the Busan public.

ISB is proud to present a line up of exciting activities that will cater to all age-groups. Carnival games to be conducted include spoon and sack races, gumboot throw and “Go Fish”. Students will have a chance to pitch a shot at their teachers, who will act as live targets for the sponge-toss game.

The event will also feature lively outdoor activities such as large water-roller balls, an obstacle course, and a human foosball tournament. Additionally, crafting activities such as mask decorating, pumpkin carving, and face painting will be available. Young children and toddlers may freely explore their environment at a tumble gym set up especially for them. The event promises to have something to keep everyone in the family entertained.

Entrance to the festival is free. Tickets valued at 1,000 KRW each may be purchased on-site during the event, to be used in exchange for food and participation in certain activities. We extend a warm welcome for you to don your best costume, and join us in our upcoming festivities. Perhaps you could be the lucky winner of our costume competition!

Fall Family Festival is emblematic of ISB’s mission to connect teaching in the classroom with action in the community, and is integral to the International Baccalaureate’s vision of teaching creative global citizenship.

Beached Bar’s Farewell Party @ Beached
Oct 20 @ 8:00 pm – 11:45 pm
Words Only+50 @ Ovantgarde
Oct 20 @ 8:00 pm – 11:45 pm
Words Only+50 @ Ovantgarde

Wordz Only, the oldest sibling of Poetry Plus, will return for an evening of poetry, short stories, personal narratives, testimonials, raps and rhymes, & tall tales. Wordz Only+50 will be the 108th event under the 18 year old Poetry Plus event series umbrella. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate. This is a great event for both first timers and savvy performance veterans, as well as everyone in between!

For Wordz Only+50, we boast a double feature: Jack Arkell, a more recent voice to our performance stages, and longtime Poetry Plus participant Bob Perchan. Anthony Velasquez will serve as the primary host and tone-setter.

*Jack Arkell has featured at events across the UK and even read poetry at a comedy club in Shanghai. He regrets that. He comes to Ovantgarde to put further stage time between himself and that dark evening.

*Bob Percahn is a longtime Busan expatriate and is one of the very individuals to wash upon these peninsular shores by boat. Yes, he got off the boat! He is highly acclaimed poet and has published in dozens of literary journals throughout the United States. Among his books are Perchan’s Chorea: Eros & Exile, Overdressed to Kill, and Mythic Instinct Afternoon. His collection of poetry Fluid in Darkness, Frozen in Light won the 1999 Pearl Poetry Prize.

*Since re-launching in July, Words Only has been blessed to have Blake Roberts and Rachel Szabo play acoustic sets to open the night. For Words Only+50, Leah Barbata will grace our stage. If you caught her last month at Liquid Arts, then you already know how captivating and catchy her songs are when she performs. Be sure not to miss out!

*The Process: everyone who wishes to perform will be able to write their names on a slip of paper and toss it into the Wordz Only floating lunch box. One of our luminaries (read: anyone), will draw the first name and that’s how we will begin. It’s your turn to perform when the preceding performer draws your name from the lunch box (Just an FYI: this does not apply for our feature). All these performance slots are for 5 to 7 minutes. Whether you are a beginner or a veteran, we encourage you to practice before the event and make sure your piece falls within these time parameters. If you only have one 2 minute piece, well, that’s fine, too. Getting to 5 minutes is not required.

*The Ovantgarde is a brand new place and it is sure to become a fixture in the local art scene. Our last event here went wonderfully and the Ovantgarde is the perfect home for our events. This place is cool.

To get there: In Kyungsung (subway stop 212), come up exit 3 and walk straight by the Starbucks on your right. At the first street, which slopes down, turn right. And turn right again at the very next street. After 20 meters or so, turn right again into the short alley with the big red sign for the Litre coffee shop on the tiny corner. Walk to the back. Look left. Go down the steps! Grab a beverage and a chair. Be wary of being too fashionably late because you’ll risk not being able to secure a chair or advantageous standing spot.
