On display are 50 sculptures of arhats from the ruins of Changnyeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, ROK.

The ruins of Changnyeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do Province, are where the sculptures of arhats, believed to be 500 years old, were first discovered in 2001. In Buddhism, an arhat, or nahan in Korean, is someone who has attained enlightenment and can enter nirvana.

The innovative space for this exhibition was designed and created in collaboration with contemporary artist Kim Seung-young.

Previously, the exhibition was successfully held at Chuncheon National Museum in Aug. 2018 and the National Museum of Korea in Apr. 2019, and was well received by a large number of visitors.

The Hanbok Hall exhibits hanboks and accessories during the period of the Joseon Dynasty and lets visitors try on various styles of hanboks, including modern designs. Visitors are able to take a photo from the virtual fitting set and then receive a photo of themselves wearing a hanbok, traditional Korean dress, by email.

The Busan Hanbok Hall is located on the first floor of BEXCO auditorium and is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is free.

The last admission is 30 minutes before closing and is closed during lunch, which is from noon until 1 pm. Groups of more than 10 people need to make a reservation by calling 070-8840-1472.

Busanjin-gu Office is operating free outdoor ice sled-riding for children and ice tubing and sledding at Dasom Plaza in Busan Citizens’ park from December 24, 2019 to February 9, 2020. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays (Mon.-Fri.) and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends (Sat.,Sun.) and public holidays.

The entrance fee is free. Sled and ice tube rentals cost 1,000 won per each riding session.

Children aged 12 or under are allowed to participate in ice sled-riding.

In celebration of Korea’s biggest holiday, Seollal Lunar New Year, the Busan Museum will hold family-friendly cultural activities and performances at the museum on January 25, 2020.

The free cultural event includes mirror making, Korean traditional performances and traditional folk games.

On-site registration is available from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 (first come, first serve) for the mirror making activity that incorporates a rat character, as 2020 is the Year of Rat. The program is scheduled over four sessions (2 to 2:30 p.m., 2:30 to 3:00 p.m., 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., 3:30 to 4:00 p.m.). Each session is limited to the first 30 people who register.

Visitors can also take part in the event by playing yut, tuho (traditional stick-throwing), gulleongsoe (hoop-rolling), as well as a top-spinning game outside the museum building. (10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) Korean folk performances are scheduled to be held on January 25, 2020, from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m.

The Busan Museum (including Cultural Experience Center inside the museum) will open to the public from January 24th to 27th during the Lunar New Year holidays.

On display are 50 sculptures of arhats from the ruins of Changnyeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, ROK.

The ruins of Changnyeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do Province, are where the sculptures of arhats, believed to be 500 years old, were first discovered in 2001. In Buddhism, an arhat, or nahan in Korean, is someone who has attained enlightenment and can enter nirvana.

The innovative space for this exhibition was designed and created in collaboration with contemporary artist Kim Seung-young.

Previously, the exhibition was successfully held at Chuncheon National Museum in Aug. 2018 and the National Museum of Korea in Apr. 2019, and was well received by a large number of visitors.

The Hanbok Hall exhibits hanboks and accessories during the period of the Joseon Dynasty and lets visitors try on various styles of hanboks, including modern designs. Visitors are able to take a photo from the virtual fitting set and then receive a photo of themselves wearing a hanbok, traditional Korean dress, by email.

The Busan Hanbok Hall is located on the first floor of BEXCO auditorium and is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is free.

The last admission is 30 minutes before closing and is closed during lunch, which is from noon until 1 pm. Groups of more than 10 people need to make a reservation by calling 070-8840-1472.
