What Magnitude Earthquake Can the Busan Metro Withstand?

As earthquakes have increased in frequency and magnitude over the years in Busan, many are wondering what magnitude the Busan Metro can actually handle.

According to the Busan Transportation Corporation, the ground and underground facilities of Busan Metro can currently withstand a magnitude 6.0 earthquake.

The Busan Metro operated by the Busan Transportation Corporation has decided to evaluate the seismic withstandability of the ground and underground structures in all sections of lines 1 to 4 using next year’s city budget of 13.4 billion won.

Experts have previously predicted that a 6.5 magnitude earthquake is the strongest possible earthquake that could hit the city due to its geographical structure.
